Discussion on the current state of architecture:
The call for academic participation in the BAQ was created in order to generate a space for the active involvement of professionals and academia worldwide, for the discussion on the current state of architecture, trough means of academic media and products such as: panels, talks, exhibitions and publications.

We invite an open dialogue and exchange of knowledge between critics, academics, students and professionals, opening a space for speculation upon the production of the built environment, aiming to better the practice of our crafts as a profession.

Call for Academic Participation:

The BAQ invites you to take part in the current field of discussion on architecture and the city, in order to generate critical thinking, and to recognize design processes that feedback architectural praxis as to effectively enhance its positive impact on people’s lives.

The call is open to universities and groups of professionals.

Academic Seminar:

We will count with the participation of the authors of the analyzed works and renowned critics, speaking in conversation panels and lectures, to share their knowledge and vision on current production of architecture and the city.

Who can participate?
OPTION 1: UNIVERSITIES

All universities and colleges, national and international, with and active faculty or school of architecture.

Each university must designate a faculty staff member as coordinator of each team, with up to 12 students of the two final undergraduate years. The coordinator will be the liaison, for communication purposes, between the university and the BAQ.

OPTION 2: PROFESSIONALS

All qualified professionals currently working, nationally or internationally in independent practices anywhere in the world.

Professionals can participate individually or collectively in groups of up to four members. In the case of collective participation, a team representative must be named, to be the liaison for communication purposes, between the team and the BAQ.

What are the objectives of the Call for Academic Participation?
General Objective:

The call for academic participation in the BAQ was created in order to generate a space for the active involvement of professionals and academia worldwide, for the discussion on the current state of architecture, trough means of academic media and products such as: panels, talks, exhibitions and publications.

Specific Objectives:

  • To foster the practice of research and critical analysis as a tool for an integral approach to design; to the architectural project and architectural production.
  • To corroborate the thematic approach through the critical analysis of buildings and the debate of the state of the art.
  • To collectively build, based on the thematic approach, a critical analysis of existing architectural works.
  • To generate national and international exchange and debate between participating professionals and academia.
How to participate?
OPTION 1: UNIVERSITIES

  • Complete the General Information for Universities / Schools of Architecture form (google form).
  • Download the PDF files (editable) for the Entry Acceptance and Payment Commitment form, Copyrights form, and Nomination of Architectural Works.
  • Complete all the downloaded forms corresponding to each option.
  • Print and sign the forms, scan and email them to baqconvocatoria@gmail.com.
  • Once the registration process is complete, payment must be made following one of the methods the BAQ 2020 will determine in due course.

OPTION 2: PROFESSIONALS: PROFESIONALES

  • Complete the General Information for Professionals or Groups of Professionals form (google form).

What is the application fee?
OPTION 1: UNIVERSITIES

The application fee for all schools of architecture national and international is USD. 2020,00 (Two thousand and twenty US dollars) plus taxes. .  This fee covers the analysis of three (3) buildings.

This fee includes the following benefits:

The school of architecture, national or international, will be designated as co-organizer of the academic event of the 22nd edition of the Pan-American Quito Architectural Biennial BAQ 2020.

Conversation Panels, with the authors of the works analyzed.

The BAQ 2020 is committed to count with the presence of at least one of the authors of the analyzed buildings during the academic event of the BAQ 2020 week; the participating teams will take part in panels with the author(s), invited critics, invited professionals and general public, as an essential element of the academic event.

Academic Publication

All the boards (and GIFs) produced by the schools of architecture will form part of the academic exhibition of the BAQ 2020.

Academic Publicatio:

  • Peer reviews and publication of essays by Ediciones ARQ of the Catholic University of Chile.
  • Publication of all the essays in the Academic Catalogue of the BAQ 2020.
  • During the peer review process, Ediciones ARQ will choose outstanding essays to be identified as selected and to receive a certificate, given by the aforementioned editorial and BAQ 2020.
  • All attendants to the BAQ event will receive the Academic Catalogue (2.500 copies approximately).
  • Each school of architecture will receive three copies of the Academic Catalogue.

Branding

The BAQ 2020 will provide brand presence for each university in the following promotional spaces:

  • BAQ 2020 PUBLICATIONS: University logo on the page corresponding to co-organizing institutions in the Academic Catalogue and the BAQ book.
  • PUBLIC EVENTS: Mention during the inaugural speech as a co-organizing university .
  • ACADEMIC SEMINAR: University logo in the different locations and stages of the Academic Seminar, and printed on the general program of the event.
  • BAQ WEB PAGE: University logo in the partners section linked to the university/school of architecture home page.
  • SOCIAL NETWORKS: Facebook post (welcome post) as co-organizing university.

Certificates:

Participation certificates will be extended by the BAQ 2020 organizers.

Academic Seminar:

  • Two passes for the whole Academic Seminar during the BAQ 2020.
  • Day passes for the corresponding panels for the participating team.
  • Special discount for other team members wishing to attend the Academic Seminar during the BAQ 2020 week.

 

OPTION 2: PROFESSIONALS

The application fee for professionals or groups of professionals is $220,00 (Two hundred and twenty US dollars) plus taxes.. This fee covers the analysis of one (1) work (building).

This fee includes the following benefits:

Conversation panels, with the authors of works analyzed.

The BAQ 2020 is committed on having the presence of at least one of the authors of the analyzed buildings during the academic event of the BAQ 2020 week; the participating teams will take part in panels with the author(s), invited critics, invited professionals and general public, as an essential element of the academic event.

Academic Exhibition

All the boards (and GIFs) produced by the professional or group of professionals will form part of the academic exhibition of the BAQ 2020.
